Power and Handling of the 2024 Jeep Wrangler

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler comes with four different engine options. Standard equipment is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, while an eight-speed automatic is available. Standard with the Sahara trim level, while optional for other trims, is a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup delivers 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The greater torque is useful in off-roading situations, as it helps keep the wheels moving while climbing at low speeds. In the case of the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid lineup, Jeep combines this turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a rechargeable electric battery, resulting in outstanding fuel efficiency and an impressive power output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 4xe powertrain is available for the Willys, Sahara, and Rubicon trims, while exclusive to the High Altitude trim. Exclusive to the ground-shaking Wrangler Rubicon 392, you'll find the mighty 6.4L HEMI V8 engine that boasts an immense 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Spanning 392 cubic inches, this powerhouse engine truly makes its presence felt. The V8 engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission as well. However, it adds steering wheel paddle shifters to give drivers more high-performance control.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler continues the tradition of offering four exceptional 4x4 systems. The standard option is the Command-Trac 4x4, featuring a part-time transfer case that empowers drivers to optimize their Wrangler's traction for various road conditions. For instance, when driving on smooth and dry terrain, two-wheel drive should be engaged to maximize fuel efficiency. On the other hand, on low-traction surfaces like snow or loose gravel, 4-HI mode can be utilized to enhance traction at speeds of up to 55 MPH. Additionally, Command-Trac provides a 4-LO mode for maximizing low-speed traction during off-road adventures on steep and uneven terrains. Shifting the Command-Trac transfer case is accomplished through a knob located on the center console, allowing for on-the-fly gear changes at speeds up to 55 MPH. Meanwhile, Selec-Trac uses a full-time automatic transfer case to automatically shift between two-wheel and four-wheel drive to best handle the current road conditions. This happens automatically, without any driver intervention. The Selec-Trac 4x4 system comes standard with the Sahara, Rubicon 392, and 4xe models. The last two systems, both named Rock-Trac, provide exceptional off-road capabilities. The Rubicon is equipped with Rock-Trac part-time 4x4, featuring a 4:1 gear ratio that delivers high torque at low speeds. On the other hand, the Rubicon X comes with Rock-Trac full-time 4x4, offering the same low-range gear ratio while providing automatic, full-time four-wheel drive functionality.

Leading up to the 2003 model year, Jeep set out to take the Wrangler's all-terrain capabilities to the next level. And thus, the 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was born. Named after one of America's most intimidating off-roading locations, California's daunting Rubicon Trail, the Wrangler Rubicon is equipped with a wide range of standard off-roading features. In 2024, the Wrangler Rubicon is available in three different variations; Rubicon, Rubicon 392, and the all-new Rubicon X. In its basic form, the Rubicon features electronic sway bar disconnect, allowing for greater wheel articulation by unlinking the front sway bar to let the front wheels drop and rise further to maintain contact with uneven terrain. Other standard Rubicon features include 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires, Tru-Lok front and rear lockers, LED headlamps, fog lamps, and taillamps, heavy-duty rock rails, and more. Meanwhile, in addition to the exclusive V8 engine, the Rubicon 392 adds 35-inch BFGoodrich T/A KO2 all-terrain tires, a 1.5-inch factory lift, a cold-air intake hood scoop with water separator, beadlock-capable alloy wheels, and a 4.56 axle ratio. Lastly, the Rubicon X, a new option for 2024, comes with Rock-Trac full-time 4x4, a forward-facing integrated off-road camera, steel bumpers, swing gate reinforcement, a 1.5-inch factory lift, and the same wheel and tire package as the Rubicon 392.
