New Teen Driver Insurance

Your teen has their driver’s permit. Before you know it, they’ll be driving on their own. This can be an exciting time but, also cause some anxiety and stress for mom and dad. I know, we are going through this transition ourselves. Here are some things to that can help with the transition.

Driving School

Driving school is a great way for your teen to have professional driver’s education both behind the wheel and online.  As a parent, it can give you peace of mind knowing your child is getting education from a professional. In some cases, the driving school instructor can even administer the driver’s license test. This can help alleviate some of the stress for your teen as they can test with someone they’ve already been driving with.  While you do have to pay for driving school the insurance discount often outweighs the price of the driving school itself. This makes it a sound investment all around.

Just Because You’ve Always Had That Insurance Doesn’t Mean You Always Should

Your insurance is great.  You’ve been with the same company for 15 years and they’ve never done you wrong. Then you mention adding your new teen driver to your insurance and all of a sudden, your insurance is sky high. It’s a fact, your insurance will go up with a new teen driver.  BUT, I urge you to shop around. Or find an insurance broker that can compare for you. My husband and I had been with the same company for a long time. We had never compared insurance companies until we got the number for adding our son. I still had a hard time talking my husband into getting quotes. We went to an insurance broker.  Guess what? We’re with a new company, same coverage, less deductible and will be paying about as much as we were paying with the other company with just my husband and I on it. Between the driving school discount, switching companies, and good student discount we saved a huge chunk of money!

Good Student Discount

Many, insurance companies offer a good student discount. If your child has a 3.5 GPA average or higher they could qualify. Your insurance agent will just need proof in the form of a school transcript, recent report card, or other official school paper.

Some cars a cheaper to insure than others. That’s just facts.  Do a quick google search for which cars are cheapest to insure this year.   Then do searches for the most expensive cars to insure for the current year.  Think about that when choosing a car.
