Is an EV for me?

Many electric vehicles offer you a range of 250 to 300 miles of all-electric range, though a couple of models have less. If you have a vehicle with around 250 miles of range, you are unlikely to experience any range anxiety during your daily commute. However, your range might differ based on EPA estimates. Several factors will impact the range of your vehicle, including your speed, driving habits, weather, and preferred climate control settings. We recommend anticipating having less range than your vehicle's EPA estimate to be on the safe side. 

One of the best things about charging your electric vehicle is the ability to charge it at home. Once your day is done, all you need to do is plug your car in, and once you wake up in the morning, it's all ready to go. There are so many positives to doing this, including not having to travel to the gas station, and you won't need to stand out in the cold and pull your vehicle out of the garage to warm it up. This being said, there are several things you need to consider. First, you can undoubtedly charge your EV using a standard 110-volt wall outlet, but it will take a while. Level 1 charging will add around four miles of range per hour. If you don't need a lot of range each day, this could work for you, but if you need more than 250 miles of range, you might want to get a Level 2 charger installed in your garage and charge at around 25 miles per hour. 

Much like gasoline, the price of electricity will vary. The average price of electricity in the country is 16.32 cents per kilowatt-hour. No matter where you live or where you charge your electric vehicle, you will spend less on electricity than you will on gasoline. Charging your vehicle at home will always be cheaper than public charging, though some public charging units are free. Electricity prices can also vary depending on the type of day, as it is usually much less expensive to charge overnight or on the weekend than it is to charge at peak times like weekday afternoons and evenings. 

All electric vehicles are capable of road-tripping, and if your Ev offers you 250 or 300 miles of electric range, you will be ready for a bathroom break as your battery is running low, making it the perfect time to charge your EV. Most of the time, you shouldn't have an issue planning your trip and make sure there is a charging station every two to four hours or so, especially if you are traveling on some major highways. You might want to diverge from your usual route so you can DC fast charge at each stop. Otherwise, your travel time will be increased significantly. Most EV owners also have a gasoline-powered vehicle to take road trips often; you shouldn't be worried too much about the range. 

The United States government will offer electric vehicle drivers a $7,500 tax credit. A new rebate system offers you rebates at the point of sale rather than tax credits. Also, all plug-in hybrid vehicles, such as the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee 4xe, are eligible for full credit, regardless of the size of their battery pack. The new program also has a credit for used vehicles! If you want to take full advantage of the federal tax credit, be sure to consult with a tax professional as you move forward. Several state, city, and local utility companies can also offer some incentives!
