We all know that if there has ever been one sedan that has made a great impact on the automotive world, the Chrysler 300 will remain at the top of that list. Whether it was the impressive stance, the unparalleled sophistication, or the performance that we always looked forward to, you could never count this sedan out. Today, right here at Quigley CDJR, we want to go over some of the history of the Chrysler 300. This is in celebration of everything this vehicle has been able to accomplish over the decades, and how we will continue to honor it long after it is stopped being produced. Are you interested in learning more about the Chrysler 300? Do you want to celebrate this rich history alongside us? If so, we hope you will continue reading down below where we have a comprehensive look on this legend.
1950s
We are starting where the Chrysler 300 began. In 1955, the Chrysler 300 was officially introduced into the automotive world. What kind of power could you expect from it all the way back then? Well, the hardtop had a HEMI V8 engine that could produce as much as 300 horsepower. It also contained solid valve lifters and even dual four-barrel carburetors. The Chrysler 300 in this era completely dominated NASCAR. But that isn’t where things stopped in the 1950s. The 1957 model brought with it the 300C, which was equipped with a 392-cubic-inch HEMI engine, which could create around 375 horsepower. Another major milestone includes the Chrysler 300D setting a lane speed record in 1958 at Bonneville. This model hit 156.387 mph. Finally, in 1959, the Chrysler 300E arrived on the market.
1960s
The Chrysler 300 really caught everyone’s attention in the 60s, with the 300F, 300G, and 300H all debuting in consecutive years from 1960 to 1962. Beyond that, they were still producing the 300J, which was focused on style and speed, and made a mark of its own on the automotive world, and what one could expect from a sedan. In 1964, the 300K model debuted. The last of the letter series cars was released in 1965, known as the 300L. However, the 300S model kept going beyond the 1960s. As you can tell, Chrysler was doing a lot to keep things fresh, new, and powerful.
1990s
In 1999, Chrysler returns the 300 nameplate into the lineup. This can be found with the introduction of the 300M. The return was so successful that the MotorTrend’s Car of the Year award was given to the Chrysler 300M. This really was the big return that Chrysler was hoping for, and that can easily be seen throughout the next years to come.
2000s
As the century changed, so did the Chrysler 300 series. The 2005 model year brought with it a return to rear-wheel drive, along with a 5.7-liter HEMI engine for the 300C model, which could get you up to 345 horsepower. This vehicle even won Car of the Year! More performance was added with the 300C SRT8 model, which meant you could get a 6.1-liter HEMI engine that produced 425 horsepower.
2010s/2020s
The last two decades brought about more bold changes to the Chrysler 300. This includes the 2014 SRT model, which featured a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that delivered as much as 470 pound-feet of torque and 470 horsepower. There was even a brand new 300 that debuted in 2015, which added more sophistication than ever before. To celebrate the end of the Chrysler 300, in the 2023 model year, Chrysler has unveiled the Chrysler 300C, which comes with a 6.4-liter HEMI engine.
